Cricut Embossing for Special Occassions

The Cricut personal electronic cutter is really an important invention for scrapbook and craft hobbyists like me and you. It creates and cuts such intricate designs in just a few seconds, keeping us from the unnecessary time and effort we could have wasted. Instead, we are given enough time to plan and design our cards and scrapbooks.

With the hundreds of designs, layout and images given to us by Cricut, what else can we ask for?

Yes, you read that right. The fun and easy electronic cutter can help us make personalized embossed paper. How?

Well first you will need the right gadgets and materials.

All professional scrapbookers out there who use Cricut already probably have those Cuttlebud Die and Embosser. Besides that, you will need a Cricut embossing folder kit.

But before we go into how to create embossed figures (that’s the easy part), let’s just tackle a bit the different things to emboss.

Why emboss in the first place? Well, as we all know, the more layers in scrapbooking (but not too thick for scrapbook pages) the better and more sophisticated and fun our designs will look. Embossing is another way to create a more 3-dimensional look. It is also something that people will not expect. Embossed images and figures always give about a nice surprise for viewers and those who will receive our cards and gifts.

Embossed images are like icing on the cake. It serves as an added “oomph!” to your design.

So what to emboss?

Just about anything. You can for example have some cut out flowers and have the petals embossed on it. You can also use layered flowers and emboss the petal layers to give it a subtle outline at the edges.

Cricut embossing may give edges to certain figures like clothes or cars. You may also emboss names on cutout lockets and other romantic images for your loved ones. As a background design, you can emboss words on a base layer.

So after deciding which to emboss and which not to emboss, we now move on to the act of embossing itself. So how do we do it?

Simple. Find your ideal deign from your Cricut cartridges, cut the design unto a plastic sheet using your Cricut machine. Put it in a blank embossing folder and use the Cuttlebug Embosser. Viola!
