Cricut Layouts: Where to Start?
Cricut layouts are the most fun and creative thing in doing scrapbooks, Cricut-style. Sure, it is easy and fun to find new cartridges and patterns for all kinds of holidays and themed cards, but your own layout is one of a kind.
So where to start? One option would be to get ideas from scrapbook samples in shops or from the Internet. If you are part of a scrapbook club or just have friends who have the same interests in crafts, you can look into each other’s collection and take a few ideas and tricks. But since this is still a limited pool of creativity, it might be a good idea to log in to the Cricut website and check the forums.
A whole section is devoted to Cricut layouts courtesy of Cricut personal electronic cutter owners. They post and upload pictures of their adventures with the ingenious machine and the endless layout possibilities. After getting ideas from them, you can even post your own resourceful and creative outputs.

You can get tips for thematic cards and scrapbooks for different holidays and occasions. For example, for Christmas, instead of hand-cutting a plain Christmas tree with minimal ornaments, you can easily do embellishments using the Circut. You can even do a white Christmas since you can now easily cut those intricate snowflake designs. For Halloween, you can now create those narrow cobwebs and spiders.
You must also remember that color is important so always consider color in your layout. Layering is also key to make each page and each card look really fun and creative. Layering gives a 3-dimensional feel to each sheet.
While it would help a lot to check out other’s Cricut layouts, it would also do no harm to create one of you own from scratch – out of your imagination.
They key is to find an inspiration. If you are doing a scrapbook page, look at the picture or memorabilia that you are trying to display. What is its very essence? What would you want to demonstrate, tell, express? Get layout inspiration from the picture or theme itself. Got a cheerleader daughter? Then put in some fluffy crepe mini pompoms and some University-inspired layout around her picture. Inspiration and imagination is the key for the best layouts.
